Here are some vinyl records (they’re round black plastic discs with a groove on each side, they play on a record player... oh never mind you’re much too young if I have to explain!). These are the album covers from 1974, 1977 and 1985 (go on, see if you’re listed on the back...) _____________________________________________________________ LYSO perform at MfY National Festival The LYSO played at the Music for Youth National Festival at Birmingham Symphony Hall on  Saturday 9th July 2011. They performed the Waltz and Adagio the Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite by Tchaikovsky and “(Baba Yaga’s) Hut on Hen’s Legs” and “The Great Gate of Kiev” from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.  _____________________________________________________________ LYSO Regional Festival MfY Report On Saturday 26th March 2011, at Rochdale Town Hall, the LYSO performed 2 movements from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky. Here are the Judges comments: Your attack with vigour and tremendous energy - The angular string melody is so articulate. All sections are balanced and the blend is superb. Opening section so secure in every detail. Delightful Bassoon solo!! You achieve the necessary 'Russian' inflexion and character - Brilliant cello and bases - you are providing a solid foundation throughout. The horrendously difficult string figures are accomplished with consummate ease! Finale - Glorious - Arresting - Assured playing! There is an effervescent feeling of exuberance in the work which you achieve so well. I commend you on your energy and total commitment to the music. Stunning dynamic contrasts. This is a first rate youth orch.. who has enormous skill and desire to perform to a very high standard!!! Thank you for your performance today! Terrific!!     - Keith Henson What a professional sound this youth orchestra makes. A vigorous and exciting opening to Baba Yaga. Excellent intonation and rhythmic articulation. Good all round sections and a tremendous orchestral full sound. The excitement of Baba Yaga ran into the splendour and majestic playing of the Great Gate of Kiev. Magnificent shaping of phrases making full use of of an extensive dynamic range. A joy to listen to.  - David Parkinson ______________________________________________________________ March 2011 - New Look Website In the spirit-of-the-age the FLSSO website has had a make-over’. Now I’m the first to agree that ‘newer is not always better’ so I apologize in advance for the change. The new software makes editing quicker and site management easier. Please update your bookmark/favourite to the new page names (Tip: “.html” has changed to “.htm” on page names - edit your existing bookmark/favourite and delete the “l” at the end). The major change is to the diary page which is now presented as a calendar. If you prefer the old ‘list of dates’ format there is a link at the bottom of the diary page. ______________________________________________________________ Thank you...
