General advice and information for parents and students Parents are asked to ensure that their son/daughter understands the need to comply with the following:- Security Under no circumstances should a student go out alone, either from the residence or during a rehearsal. As the weekend has a very full schedule and the venue has its own recreational facilities there should be no need for any student to leave the premises. Residential Accommodation All accommodation venues have their own 'house rules' and these must be adhered to. Students should make themselves aware, after being allocated a room, of the nearest EMERGENCY EXIT, in case of fire. Each ensemble will be told the emergency procedures in the first full session on the course. Please keep money or valuables with you at all times (DO NOT LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED IN YOUR ROOM) or if you wish, ask a member of staff to look after your money (please put money in an envelope, clearly marked with your name). General Health and Welfare If at any time of day or night, a student feels unwell or ill at ease, it is essential that a member of staff be alerted immediately. The course has a demanding schedule and in order for everyone to be able to give of their best at all times, sufficient rest and sleep are essential. All members of the orchestra must give consideration to others and their needs and act responsibly. The general health of the whole group and the quality of the performances depends on this. Safe use of mobile phones We do not wish to ban the use of mobile phones on the course but would ask parents/guardians to impress upon their children that in the interests of child protection, the inappropriate use of cameras on mobile phones during the course and especially when in dormitory accommodation, could have serious and damaging consequences for all involved. Drugs/Alcohol Abuse Regrettably, mention must be made of this in the interests of the safety and welfare of the whole group. Students must not be tempted to TASTE, INHALE or SMOKE any illegal substances. Drugs can be lethal. Senior students will be expected to act in a responsible manner. Alcohol must not be brought onto the premises. Students under 18 years of age must not consume alcohol. In the case of a student abusing the above code, the Leader and Directors of the course reserves the right to contact the student's parents to discuss the situation and agree the appropriate action to be taken.
